The Universe

We live in a universe so vast that its limits are unknown.

Through it are scattered millions og galaxies of various sizes and shapes .

In Galaxy like one shown here , our sun and the earth are located.
Galaxies contain millions ,even billions,of stars of galaxy types ,
ranging from red supergiants less dense than the earth's atmosphere
to white dwarfs hundreds of times denser than lead.

Space is almost "empty", for stars on the average
are spaced several light years apart; but there are some clusters,
closely packed toward the center , that contain perhaps 50.000 stars in all.
Around many stars,astronomers believe,relvolne planets.

Exploring The Moon

The accompanying chart shows the moon as it might
be seen through a low-power telescope. The majority of the various features mapped
at this magnifacation can be seen also with a pair of good.
High power field glasses .
Most "creaters" and mountain on the moon have the names (often latinized)
of famous astronomers and other scientist.


The dry "seas" have fanciul latin names .
Though the chart shows the full moon ,
studying it as suggested on p.148 is most satisfactory
